I have read that having two antivirus can create problems, so I want to deactivate McAfee, without uninstalling it because it is the original and Avast is not. We have virus problem in our college DC, so we have been told to use Avast. In that case, either click Action Center's white flag icon in Taskbar Notification Area (aka System Tray) and click Turn on virus protection (Important) or Turn on spyware protection (Important), or open Control Panel (Windows Key+X has a nice shortcut), type action into Search field, click Action Center and then click one of the Turn on now buttons in Security section. It came with 15 month McAfee Security Centre pre-installed.

If you've previously uninstalled a third-party antivirus product (avast!, AVG, Norton/Symantec, McAfee or some other product), you might see a dialog that states that Windows Defender is turned off. This video will show you how to turn off Avast free anti virus software temporarily. Right-click it and select Disable through the drop-down menu. Next, you need to proceed to the Avast system tray and click on their icon. Avast might ask you to reconfirm and then disable the antivirus permanently. However, once installed, my browser (Opera) was not able to display web pages, until I disabled the Web Shield. If you want to keep the antivirus security software running, click on the Off option. Right-click it and choose Disable from your drop-down menu. Next, you need to see a Avast system tray and click on its icon. Avast might ask you to reconfirm and then turn off the ant-virus permanently. "Uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus software" I just installed Avast Free AV, considering it as a replacement for Outpost Security Suite, which I have been having problems with. If you want to hold the anti-virus running, click the Off option.
